There is a fascinating story in the bible of how the Lord orchestrated tragedy in the life of Saul so as to set him up for his blessing. His Father’s donkeys got lost and he sent him to look for them. The search bore no fruit and Saul was left feeling frustrated and ready to give up. At the time he must have thought “why has this misfortune befallen us?” or “why me?”, “why am I so unlucky?”.
We do go through moments when we think God has either forgotten us or just does not care about our difficult situations.
The story is a reminder that in the grand scheme of things, everything works together for good for them that love God and are called according to His purpose. God caused Saul’s donkeys to get lost on the one side and then told Samuel the prophet to expect a young man to come to him to be anointed as King on the other side. He didn’t give the full picture to both parties. All that was needed was trust.
God’s progression doesn’t have to follow the order of good – better – best. He cared about Saul, but he still engineered the loss of his donkeys so as to set him up with a big favour ahead. Still, He allowed him to be frustrated with a search that bore no fruit. The story of Joseph also follows the same progression.
The rains that may be beating us now may be the showers of blessings that we have been praying for. Let’s hold on and trust God. We may be disillusioned at this time, but let’s pray that He will give us heaven’s perspective through which to look at our situations. Remember, He has a plan and He is working it out.
