The Brook Cherith had long been in its location around Jordan before the attention of Elijah was called to it by God. Embedded in that Brook was the refreshing water that would sustain Elijah for days, the shelter of great refuge from the evils of Ahab and the right positioning for a raven’s meal. Hagar likewise could not assess the well of water that revived Ishmael until her eyes were opened after the visitation by the angel of the Lord.
More often than not, our anticipation for greater things drives us past the simple solutions that God has prepared for us. In the faith walk, ‘eyes that see and ears that hear’ are needed to partake in God’s deliverance for His children. May we see and hear our help in the hour of need.
